UAE Eyes Opportunities for the $2.2 Trillion Halal Industry

The halal industry, valued at an astounding $2.2 trillion, is capturing the world’s attention. Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, believes that UAE businesses can harness this growth in the halal sector.

According to Al Zeyoudi, the halal market is no longer confined to Islamic and Arab countries; it is experiencing continuous expansion, driven by global consumer demand.

The Global Halal Market

Speaking at the Global Halal Brazil Business Forum in São Paulo, Al Zeyoudi stated, “Today, the market value of halal trade is estimated at more than $2.2 trillion, and halal products represent 3.7 percent of total global trade, figures that are constantly increasing.”

The UAE’s active participation in events like the GHB forum reflects its commitment to strengthening international ties and fostering opportunities in the halal industry. The UAE is a pioneer in supporting and developing the Islamic economy, with the halal industry playing a crucial role.

Sharing Expertise and Global Cooperation

Dr. Al Zeyoudi emphasized that the UAE’s halal system boasts advanced legislative and regulatory aspects, ready to be shared with other nations. He stated, “We are always ready to share our experience with countries that wish to benefit from it.”

He called for global cooperation in the halal industry and the integration of modern technology to ensure its sustainable development. Al Zeyoudi expressed confidence that the Global Halal Brazil Forum will contribute significantly to these efforts.

Brazil’s Role in the Halal Industry

Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the President of Brazil, highlighted the nation’s record exports to Arab League countries, reaching a revenue of $17.74 billion in 2022. Brazil’s exports to the Arab world reflect both the quality of Brazilian products and its ability to meet the demands of this dynamic market.

He also praised Brazil’s halal industry, which is driven by innovation and sustainability, reflecting a commitment to environmental protection and high-quality products. Brazil is a leading supplier of halal products to the Islamic world, surpassing countries like the United States, Indonesia, Turkey, Australia, and China.

Expanding Halal Offerings

While Brazil’s exports are significant, there is room for diversification and expansion in the halal market. The export list primarily consists of essential foods, such as meat, sugar, grains, and cereals. To further strengthen the promotion of Brazilian products, Brazil aims to offer a broader range of halal-certified industrialized products.

Global Halal Brazil Business Forum

The Global Halal Brazil Business Forum is a gathering of key players in the halal industry, including scholars, authorities, business leaders, and public representatives. This forum, in its second edition, is promoted by the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) and certification entity FAMBRAS Halal.

In addition to food and beverages, the forum focuses on expanding the halal economy in Brazil across various sectors, including cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, entertainment, fashion, finance, and tourism. It aims to raise awareness about the global halal market’s prospects and Brazil’s role as a leading global supplier of halal products.
