Saudi Arabia to Provide 250,000 Jobs for Riyadh Expo 2030

Saudi Arabia is set to offer 250,000 jobs during the hosting of the Expo 2030 in Riyadh, marking a significant move towards the Kingdom’s objective of creating 1 million new tourism jobs by 2030.In a session titled “Accelerated Progress in the Labour Market” at the Global Labor Market Conference, Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al Khateeb emphasized the importance of sustainable job opportunities. He highlighted that the Expo 2030 in Riyadh will play a pivotal role, with plans to provide 1,000 hotel rooms in conjunction with the exhibition.

National Tourism Strategy and Job Creation

Minister Al Khateeb referenced the inauguration of the National Tourism Strategy in 2019, aiming to increase the sector’s contribution to the domestic product from 3% to 10% by 2030. This ambitious goal necessitates the creation of one million additional jobs in the tourism industry by the same year.

Global Labor Market Trends

Speaking on the digitization of services, especially in trade and manufacturing, Minister Al Khateeb acknowledged its impact on the labor market. He noted that the travel and tourism sector, accounting for 10% of the global labor market and providing 330 million jobs in 2019, faced challenges during the pandemic, particularly in airlines and hotels, which collectively lost 60 million jobs.
