The aviation industry is experiencing significant growth and is projected to require 1.3 million professionals by 2032 to meet the demands of the commercial and private travel markets, according to the latest report from CAE, a leading Canadian aviation training company.
CAE’s 2023 Aviation Talent Forecast report reveals that the commercial travel segment necessitates 1.18 million skilled individuals, while business travel needs 106,000 professionals to fill vacancies resulting from retirement, attrition, and industry expansion.
Recognizing the urgency to expand the talent pool for sustained industry growth and safety, Nick Leontidis, Group President of CAE’s civil aviation unit, emphasizes the need to promote aviation careers to the next generation and underrepresented communities through innovative support programs.
As the global aviation industry faces a labor shortage across all areas of the business, including pilots, baggage handlers, ticket agents, flight attendants, and aircraft mechanics, there is a critical need to bridge the gap between talent supply and demand.
Over the next decade, the civil aviation industry will require 284,000 new pilots, 402,000 technicians, and 599,000 cabin crew members to accommodate the growing number of aircraft in service. In the Middle East, 129,000 new professionals will be needed, while Africa will require 29,000 new talents by 2032.
CAE’s forecast aligns with Boeing’s outlook on labor demand, with the US plane maker estimating a global need for 2.3 million new aviation workers in the next 20 years, with 13% of the demand coming from the Middle East and Africa.
Globally, airlines are expected to invest approximately $200 million in training and professional services to support industry growth and replace retiring personnel.
