Gentari, GIC, and AM Green Partner to Develop Green Ammonia Platform

Energy leaders Gentari, the clean energy division of Malaysia’s Petronas, GIC, and AM Green, established by the founders of Indian renewable energy giant Greenko, have joined forces to create one of the world’s largest green ammonia platforms. This visionary partnership aims to produce an impressive 5 million tons of green ammonia by 2030, equivalent to approximately 1 million tons of green hydrogen.

The primary focus of this collaboration is the production of green ammonia at multiple locations in India. This endeavor is expected to play a pivotal role in accelerating India’s progress toward achieving its net-zero targets while also benefiting OECD markets.

Exporting Green Ammonia to OECD Markets

Anticipated exports of green ammonia to key OECD markets, including Germany, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, are slated to commence in late 2025. These exports are set to make a significant contribution to the global green economy.

The production of green ammonia will be overseen by a division of AM Green, known as AM Green Ammonia Holdings. Following investments from Gentari, GIC, and AM Green, this unit will be fully funded and will embark on phased investments in various regions of India, including Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Karnataka, and Himachal Pradesh.

Pioneering Large-Scale Green Ammonia Production

Anil Chalamalasetty, founder of Greenko Group and AM Green, expressed enthusiasm about this strategic partnership’s role in advancing net-zero goals across various industries and OECD economies. The production goal of 5 million tons of green ammonia, equivalent to 1 million tons of green hydrogen, aligns with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and Europe’s green hydrogen import targets for 2030.

Attaining this scale of production will position this venture as a pioneer in large-scale, cost-competitive green ammonia production on a global scale. AM Green’s commitment extends to producing green molecules such as green methanol, green caustic soda, green chlorine, biofuels, and various high-value green chemicals through its AM Green Molecules subsidiary.

Furthermore, AM Green will house a joint venture with Belgium’s John Cockerill to manufacture electrolysers in its AM Green Technology and Solutions subsidiary. These electrolysers are projected to supply approximately 6.5 GWs of electrolysers to AM Green Ammonia by 2030, contributing to the green energy revolution.
